Mckearin Charted Group-1-16 Washington Eagle Historical Flasks Manufactured by T W Dyott
Dyott was always one to capitalize on the public's passions. He began to manufacture fancy pocket bottles in 1815. During the year 1821 Dyott was naming them in advertisements in Newspapers all over the country. One such historic flask had the Bust of George Washington embossed on it while the other side had the United States Coat of Arms the Eagle.
This Flask was first advertised in 1823. This Flask is known to Historical Flasks collectors as the GI-16 Washington/Eagle Pint sized flask. The Flask has the Bust of General Washington on one side with the lettered embossing in an arch around the bust stating GENERAL WASHINGTON. On the reverse side of the Flask there is an Eagle with five arrows in one of his talons and an olive branch in the other. Below the Eagle is an horizontally beaded medallion with the letters T W D embossed inside of it. I have two of these flasks in my collection.The first one has a good mold strike and has just minor hazing inside of the flask. It is light green aqua in color.
GI-16 Washington Eagle This one is just a shade darker in color. It also has a good mold strike.
Mckearin Charted Group-I-14 Washington Eagle Jefferson & Adams Historical Flasks made by T W Dyott
Dyott capitalized again on a momentous occasion. On July 4th 1826 John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died within hours of each other. The nation mourned the loss of two of its founders and most articulate citizens. Dyott went to work to commemorate the occasion as quickly as possible and had the mold for the GI-16 Washington / Eagle flask altered on its edges. He added the inscriptions KENSINGTON GLASS WORKS PHILADELPHIA around one band in the center medial area,and he added the inscription ADAMS & JEFFERSON JULY 4 A D 1776 * * * in the other medial ribbing band. Above the Sun Rays at the top perimeter of the flask is the word E PLURUBUS UNUM. I have two of these flasks in my collection.
The first one has a good mold strike and has just minor hazing inside of the flask. It is light green aqua in color. .
GI-14 Washington / Eagle Pint sized Flask 1826-1830. Light Aqua Green Color in color. This flask was found in a deep privy in Philadelphia in 1975.
